What’s the Difference Between a Computer Repair and a Health Check?

When your device isn’t performing well, should you bring it in for repair—or would a health check be enough? Here’s how to tell the difference:

  • Repair: This is reactive. Repairs are for when something’s broken—like a cracked screen, dead battery, failing hard drive, or virus infection. It often involves replacing hardware or fixing software issues.
  • Health Check: This is preventative. A good IT provider will run diagnostics, remove unwanted files, update software, test hardware, clean internals, and ensure the machine is secure and optimised.

Why Health Checks Matter: Just like a car, regular maintenance helps prevent breakdowns. Dust buildup can cause overheating. Old software can introduce security risks. A health check every 6–12 months extends the lifespan of your device and keeps it performing like new.

If you’re unsure, book a health check first. We’ll tell you if something needs fixing before it becomes an expensive repair.
